As our network of Endeavor Entrepreneurs continues to expand, so does our outstanding group of experienced mentors offering their insight and connections to further our founders’ businesses! Today we are introducing you to business advisor and executive turned cross country cyclist, Jon Ecker.  

Entrepreneurial Experience and Career

With a wealth of experience in the energy sector across North America, Europe and Japan, Jon has served as a trusted strategic advisor and consultant for many companies, while also exploring his own entrepreneurial journey as CEO and President of several businesses during major growth stages. 

Big data is Jon’s bread and butter. He has collected public and directly sourced data from patented devices and satellites to create and offer strategic intelligence software as a service for customers. Most recently and perhaps notably, Jon was the CEO of energy information services giant, Genscape, where he led the company (originally co-founded by Endeavor Entrepreneur and EdjAnalytics founder Sean O’Leary) to a $364 million sale to Wood Mackenzie in 2019.

Other roles Jon has held during his noteworthy career include:

• President and founder of Global Energy’s Energy Velocity subsidiary 
• Sr. Director of Platts North American and European database and GIS products
• Managing Director of Financial Times Energy’s North American and European Products
• Director of RDI’s database product suite

Jon has also shared his expertise with others, having designed and taught an Energy Market Fundamentals and Market Design in North America course at Leeds School of Business and University of Colorado Boulder.

His Connection to Endeavor

Jon joined the Endeavor network as a mentor in the beginning of 2021 and has quickly become an integral part of our entrepreneurial family. He has conducted several Second Opinion Reviews (one-on-one strategic mentoring calls to assess Endeavor candidates) with companies from Italy to Ireland, and has stepped in to mentor Endeavor Entrepreneurs such as Detroit-based Vectorform and Bulgaria-based EnduroSat.

Paying it Forward for Founders

While his career speaks for itself, like many entrepreneurs, Jon is always eager to take risks and try something new. He is currently mentoring today’s founders while riding his bike cross country from Washington State to Washington DC. on the 3,700+ mile Rails to Trails bike route. And when we say “while riding” we literally mean, while riding. Jon has joined several calls during his travels, ensuring he will be in a location with service when necessary. That’s what we call determination!
